Our underwriters focus on answering two fundamental questions. Does this customer qualify for one of our markets? Can we get the appropriate rate for the risk? On the surface, these questions may seem straightforward, but as an underwriter, you will possess a curiosity that propels you to dig a little deeper for the answers. You will rely on your strong analytic, communication, and negotiation skills and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Underwriters are natural problem solvers who want to know our customers and how we can profitably accept the risks that our policies cover.
Responsibilities: * Market company products and services to the agents and participants in the agency management process to achieve company growth and profitability targets. * Handle and manage assigned complex books of business to maximize profitability and growth. * Within delegated authority levels and company guidelines you will accept, reject and or modify new and renewal business for all personal lines. * Develop on-going relationships with agents, monitors agency growth, profitability and quality of submissions, and keeps agents up-to-date with underwriting and/or product changes. * Promote the company's public image by speaking to insurance-related groups, driver's education classes etc... by networking within the insurance community to stay abreast of changes within the industry. Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a directly related insurance position. * Analytical and decision making skills. * Demonstrated organization skills and ability. * Proficiency in underwriting all personal lines exposures, thorough knowledge of regulatory and policy differences among states in which business is transacted is desired. * Actively working toward professional designation(s) is desired.
