Structural Design Engineer 4

This supports open positions for several existing and developmental airplane programs in the Puget Sound area of Washington State, including: the next generation aerial refueling KC-46A Tanker, the new game-changing 787, the new high-capacity 747-8, and the evolving 737, 767, and 777, along with aircraft modifications and production support organizations. Requires experience working with Aircraft Design, including commodity experience in one or more of the following areas: Aircraft Fuselage, Empennage, Wing, Composite/Metallic Structure, Systems Analysis, Floors, Doors, Landing Gear, Structural Certification, primary or secondary propulsion strucutres (Inlets, Fan Cowls, Thrust Reversers, Exhausts, Engine Mounts, Strut, Strut to Wing or Fairings) CATIA V5 exp required and ENOVIA/PDM experience prefered.

Develops, integrates and documents structural requirements to establish the system design. Develops, maintains and modifies structural and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle. Leads performance, integration and analysis of tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications. Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals. Assists with investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements. Candidate must have structures engineering experience with Large / primary aircraft structures (fuselage, wing, empennage, control surfaces, landing gear, and doors, with either composites or metal structural systems experience, etc.) Works under minimal direction.

Independently identifies project resource requirements, integrate and direct multi project elements into a single collective overall project plan. Collaborates with others on the most complex projects assigned. Ability to direct, delegate and ensure performance of assigned responsibilities and tasks as a project team leader in support of the overall large scale and complex projects. Identifies and resolves any issues and provide solutions and or recommendations to ensure the successful completion of the project.

• Aircraft Structure
Extensive, specialized knowledge of aircraft structure, materials strengths and properties, design criteria, loading conditions, and processes (e.g. non destructive testing, corrosion prevention)

• Analysis/Design Optimization
Extensive ability to evaluate complex vehicles and systems from a multitude of perspectives. Includes the ability to apply figures of merit and integrated optimization tools. Ability to perform multi-disciplinary trade studies to evaluate configuration alternatives for functional and spatial integration.

• Computer Aided Design Tools
Ability to manipulate complex computer aided design tools and systems (e.g., computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), computer aided three dimensional interactive (CATIA), Mentor Graphics, Unigraphics). Able to build and manipulate complex data sets, (e.g., compare CATIA to measurement data, create stereo lithography files).

• Structural Design
Extensive, specialized knowledge of structural design principles and practices from requirements generation to production and product support.

Typical Education/Experience
Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 9 or more years' experience, Master's with 7 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Other Job related information
Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) Structural Engineering positions require a minimum of a BS Degree, preferred in the following disciplines: MECHANICAL, CIVIL, AEROSPACE/AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING. ABET accreditation preferred. This is a HUB Requisition that supports staffing requirements for several existing and developmental airplane programs in the Puget Sound area of Washington State. Requires experience working with Aircraft Design; Candidate will have commodity experience in one or more of the following areas: Aircraft Fuselage/ Empennage/ Wing/ Composite Structure/ Metallic Structure/Systems Analysis/ Floors/ Doors/ Landing Gear/ Structural Certification. CATIA V5 exp required and ENOVIA experience preferred.
