POSITION SUMMARY: This is an opportunity to join our dynamic and growing Pacific Northwest team as the Sr. Bridge Engineer/Bridge Manager, based in our Seattle, Washington office. The successful candidate will serve on multiple current and planned project opportunities, and will have an important leadership role in expanding URS' transportation business.
The objective is to win and successfully execute major transportation projects in the Pacific Northwest Region (Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Western Canada), with a focus on expanding our bridge practice. The basic mission will be to establish URS as a regional leader in the bridge market through the development and successful execution of major projects sponsored by state departments of transportation and local municipalities. Success will be measured by: (1) effective leadership in bridge business development strategies; (2) effective leveraging of URS company-wide resources and coordination across business lines, offices, regions, and divisions; (3) in collaboration with the Transportation Business Line Leader, effective positioning with contractors and teaming partners; (4) significant growth of URS' Pacific Northwest bridge market share; (5) effective project planning, setup, staffing, controls, and monitoring to ensure successful execution - safety, quality, and financial performance; (6) client satisfaction, (7) branding and recognition of URS as a bridge leader in the Pacific Northwest.
Specific technical expectations include, but are not limited to preparing or overseeing the preparation of bridge design work using the appropriate combination of AASHTO, WSDOT, ODOT, ADOT and local agency standards. Designs could include: (1) new and/or rehabilitation of Medium and large complex vehicular and transit bridge crossings (both fixed and movable) in highly congested urban areas and over sensitive waterways; (2) Retaining structures (e.g. retaining walls); (3) design of ancillary structures (e.g. sign bridges); and, (4) Bridge load rating. The role could also include the assistance in preparing plans, specifications, construction cost estimates, reports, and technical memos; performing quality control reviews of designs completed by others; and preparing/negotiating scopes of work, budgets, and schedules.
The successful candidate will be expected to work in conjunction with the Transportation Business Line Leader in developing strategies to significantly grow URS' transportation/bridge business in the Pacific Northwest, lead the region's bridge practice, participate in business development activities and project positioning, and ensure URS active participation in transportation related organizations and activities. The successful candidate will also need to perform the duties of a Project Principal, Project Manager or Task Leader on select projects - including proposal preparation and reviews, contract negotiations, project planning, project staffing and recruiting, technical and quality reviews, financial performance, and client relations.
