CAMS Tooler (Laser Metrology & Jig Building)

This expert position will work with our current CAMS Tools and shop machinists to help meet the metrology needs of our facility through hands-on services. Expert will also be responsible for conducting detailed dimensional and visual inspections of critical parts, assemblies and tools, including jig building, soft tooling and machinery. 



Requirements:

Skills:

  • Must comply with all company safety and quality policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to interact well with all levels of management in a professional manner.
  • Proficient in tracker setup and analyzing XYZ and MBD criteria.
  • Expert in setting up and establishing coordinate systems for tooling use.
  • Skilled in installing large scale tools including initial installation of FAJ’s or similar hardware. 
  • Expert in all functions associated with the laser tracker including setup, building, and analyzing of parts and tools.
  • Knowledgeable with planning and organizing jobs including the fabrication of tools from design to final product.
  • Experienced with understanding of Cartesian and Cylindrical Coordinate Systems and how they apply to tooling and aerospace parts.
  • Proficient in performing and understanding complex alignments, Best Fits, Datum Alignments and producing professional looking reports.
  • Proficient in managing jobs and able to troubleshoot software and easily convey technical issues for other departments.
  • Preferred expert experience with SmarTeam and DMU or similar software.
  • Proficient in all aspects of running Verisurf (X preferred) and AXYZ software or similar laser tracker software.
  • Intermediate level of GD&T and must be able to understand and apply per design requirements. Able to identify incorrect GD&T callouts.
  • Strong math skills
  • Excellent skills in 2010 Excel and Word.
  • Must be able to move freely around the facility and workstation, stoop, bend, kneel, stand and walk for extended periods of time up to and over 8 hours a day.
  • Must be willing to inspect in multiple areas/processes and shift assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage details and meet deadlines with 100% accuracy in a multi-task environment.
  • Must be highly motivated, committed to high quality standards, able to function with minimal supervision.
  • Able to work efficiently under fast pace environment.
  • Must also be available for cross training, able to perform multiple tasks and support overtime as needed.

Education & Experience:

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years experience operating laser trackers and setting up both small and large scale metrology.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years jig building experience or other hands on tooling discipline (noted below).
  • Expert in reading and understanding complex engineering drawings (including MBD) and specifications (PL, title block, tolerances, sheet, zone, water lines, butt lines, station lines, dimensions, general notes, flag notes, etc.).
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Jig Building:

  • Must be able to assemble jig and fixtures including setting of details to coordinate systems and model based references.
  • Must be able to install all necessary details including bolting and doweling patterns.
  • Must be proficient with all hand tools required for jig building: drills, reamers, drill presses, sanders, taps, optical levels, etc.
  • Machining: Proficient at using Bridgeports or other milling machines. Able to machine details per design.
  • Soft Tooling: Proficient in tool layups as well as experience building Aerospace Tooling.
