Product Data Management Engineer 3
Collaborates with teams in the development and delivery of the Spatial planning and integration effort for the 747/767/777 or a derivative Program. Supports the development of airplane level spatial integration plans that support the program configuration management plans, reflecting critical design elements, process and tool change integration, manual and Digital Pre-Assembly (DPA), as appropriate and other drivers that influence integration capability. Leads reviews to assure this integration occurs, identifying risk areas, interferences, missing elements, etc. Drive risk and mitigation plans as appropriate to gain resolution. Work with other integration focals and report to the appropriate leadership teams to assure continued integration and understanding of risks throughout the program. As program appropriate, work with other BCA personnel to assure that the Spatial Plan is developed and stays synchronized with the evolution of spatial tools and that data contained in those tools are visible and capable of being integrated with existing data. Provide expertise over time as a subject matter expert (SME) for spatial integration processes and tools by maintaining close contact with the community that provides those tools. Knowledgeable of engineering CAD/CAM software and tool configuration management requirements. Preferred CATIA / ENOVIA experience. Competencies : Leadership, Integrator, Project Management, Communication, airplane (A/P) Design
Primary Job Role as a Spatial Integration Engineer: (Major Tasks / Requirements)
- Identify and prioritize interface closures for commodity groups accross the airplane, according to the milestones and release schedules
- Identify and communicate geometry states and conversion requirements (2D Mylar, CATIA V4, CATIA V5)
- Use spatial integration tools to identify and coordinate resolution of action items, bracket interfaces and drawing interferences
- Identify and communicate part re-use, weight savings, manufacturing improvements and other opportunities within volume and across volume (smart design practices)
- CATIA V4, EPIC, CATIA V5 and ENOVIA experience preferred
Competencies
General• Build Positive Relationships
Builds effective working relationships within the work group, with interorganizational employees, and occasionally with external customers. Probes for and provides information to clarify situations. Seeks and expands on original ideas, enhances others' ideas, and contributes own ideas about the issues at hand. Places higher priority on team and organization goals than on own goals. Seeks agreement from work group, with other employees, and occasionally with external customers to support ideas or take partnership-oriented action; uses sound rationale to explain value of actions. Establishes good interpersonal relationships by helping people feel valued, appreciated, and included in discussions.
• Decision Making
Recognizes a wide range of potentially difficult issues, problems, or opportunities in own work group, across the organization and occasionally with external customers; determines whether action is needed. Identifies the need for and collects information to better understand difficult issues, problems, and opportunities. Integrates information from a wide variety of sources; detects trends, associations, and cause-effect relationships; creates relevant options for addressing difficult problems/opportunities and achieving desired outcomes. Formulates and/or makes recommendations for decision criteria based on issue complexity; evaluates options by considering implications and consequences; chooses an effective option. Implements decisions or initiates action within a reasonable time. Includes fellow work group members, employees across the organization, and occasionally external customers in the decision-making process as warranted to obtain good information, make the most appropriate decisions, and ensure buy-in and understanding of the resulting decisions.
• Initiating Action
Takes immediate action when confronted with a problem or when made aware of a situation in own or other work area. Implements new ideas or potential solutions without prompting; does not wait for others to take action or to request action. Takes action that goes beyond job requirements in order to achieve objectives.
• Project Management
Experienced in creating comprehensive project schedules identifying time frames for key project milestones. Directs and manages more complex project schedules; independently identifies project resource requirements, may collaborate with others on the most complex projects assigned or assist more experienced employees in complex large scale projects. Ability to accept, direct and perform responsibilities and work assigned tasks as a project team member in support of the overall project; leads and directs the activities and resources of assigned projects and supports higher graded employees in more large scale and complex projects.
• Systems Thinking
Evaluates job tasks and processes on how well they help meet team objective(s); identifies non-value-adding components and barriers. Formulates change strategies; seeks input from others to evaluate options for change and encourage buy-in. Makes appropriate changes to job/role structures and processes by communicating effectively and focusing on new skill development. Uses accurate measurement systems to monitor the implementation.
Technical• Analytical Skills
Skill and ability to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources at the department level.
• Engineering Processes
Complete knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, technology, avionics). Complete knowledge of the interaction between departments/ disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes (e.g., Operations, Logistics, Business).
• Engr Knowledge/Comprehension
Complete knowledge of various engineering disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, and systems. The ability to communicate with technical personnel from multiple skill areas and functions to evaluate technical information and issues impacting design, production, and support of products, services, or other deliverables.
• Process Management Skills
Complete ability to determine the process to be used to accomplish goals, properly document processes, know how to organize people and activities, understand how to separate and combine tasks into efficient workflow, identify opportunities for synergy and integration, and simplify complex processes.
• Tech Risk Mgmt & Perf Measure
Broad working knowledge of the methodology and processes associated with risk management, and conducting trade studies, including cost as an independent variable (CAIV) trades. Ability to: identify and quantity potential risks areas within specific (depth), understand design constraints (technical, cost & schedule), identify and trade alternatives (i.e., trade studies), select/recommend the best plan for mitigating risks, implement/execute plans for mitigating risk, establish appropriate performance tracking metrics to track risk burndown over time. Ability to effectively utilize risk management tools (iso-risk charts/plots, waterfall, etc) to support program/project execution.
