ThePersonal Lines Zone Underwriting Manageris responsible for leading one of three field underwriting organizations serving a multi-region territory. This position is accountable for achieving financial targets, compliance and underwriting quality, and talent development. Individual directs operations of multiple underwriting teams and is responsible for ensuring quality of underwriting, agency experience and service results, and developing strong agency partnerships. Key member on Regional leadership teams engaged with planning and executing regional business plans. Individual will regularly engage with agents to support profitable growth. Individual is member of underwriting leadership team and involved in developing and executing strategic and operational plans supporting corporate objectives.

Responsibilities:
* Leader of an underwriting organization for an assigned portion of the country managing including 12 states and 3 regional territories. Responsible for overall department operations including staff performance, resource allocation, customer service, quality, and expense management. Manages productivity metrics, field staffing levels, and budgets.
* Responsible for participating in the development, implementation and monitoring of underwriting policy and process. Leads a field underwriting organization in selecting risks, ensuring data accuracy, re-underwriting books of business, developing agency rehabilitation plans and executing profit restoration initiatives. Has technical expertise across all personal lines product set and holds highest level of authority with ultimate account decision making responsibility.
* Accountable for financial results including the achievement of combined ratio, PIF growth, and retention for personal lines products within multiple states/regions. Manages profitability in compliance with company policies and procedures including catastrophe management, coverage dispute resolution, and leading the agency management process.
* Develops strong agency relationships in support of agency growth and engagement. Communicates and educates agents on Safeco's business strategies, underwriting appetite and value through day to day operations and participation in agency events.
* Collaborates across the organization with Distribution, Claims, Service Operations, and Home Office partners to execute business plans and resolve product, process, and customer issues.
* Accountable for attracting, hiring, retaining talent, and driving a highly effective organization.
* Responsible for field communications, training strategy, and quality control. Identifies and implements enhancements to new workflows as a result of business process management. Includes development of new workflows as a result of product and automation changes.
* 7-10 years of progressive operational management experience.
* Demonstrated leadership abilities with successful experience leading managers; proven track record of excellent results including accountability for financial results.
* 5 years of personal lines underwriting experience desired; strong operation management skills.
* Strong interpersonal skills and organizational agility, including the ability to deal effectively across a variety of functional areas.
* Proven ability to hire, coach, motivate and develop people.
* Undergraduate degree; CPCU/API designation preferred.
