Coordinates and implements new engineering principles, theories, advanced technologies and concepts. Validates and ensures production readiness of solutions to complex problems. Implements lean principles and technologies.
Competencies
General• Coaching/Teaching
Clarifies expected behaviors, knowledge, and level of proficiency by seeking and giving information and checking for understanding. Provides instruction, positive modeling, and opportunities for observation in order to help fellow work group members, internal employees and occasionally external customers develop skills; encourages questions to ensure understanding. Gives timely, appropriate feedback on performance; reinforces efforts and progress. Establishes good interpersonal relationships by helping fellow work group members, internal employees and occasionally external customers, feel valued, appreciated, and included in discussions.
• Collaboration
Works effectively and cooperatively with fellow employees, peers from other teams and/or parts of the organization and occasionally external customers; establishes and maintains good working relationships by actively involving others and helping them feel valued, appreciated, and included in discussions. Places higher priority on team and/or organization goals than on own goals. Offers to provide help and/or leadership to other teams and/or employees and occasionally external customers when they need assistance.
• Communication
Clarifies purpose and importance; stresses major points; follows a logical sequence. Keeps the audience engaged through use of techniques such as analogies, illustrations, humor, an appealing style, body language, and voice inflection. Frames the message in line with audience experience, background, and expectations; uses terms, examples, and analogies that are meaningful to the audience. Seeks input from audience; checks understanding; presents message in different ways to enhance understanding. Uses syntax, pace, volume, diction, and mechanics appropriate to the media being used. Accurately interprets messages from others and responds appropriately.
Technical• Analytical Skills
Skill and ability to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources at the department level.
• Assembly Process
Complete knowledge of assembly and production processes, manufacturing capabilities (e.g., composites, structures), and data needed for defining delivery configurations (e.g., design definition, program directives, engineering drawings, change memos, wiring diagrams and schematics, functional tests, supplier data). Ability to differentiate production (manufacturing) processes and requirements from in-service procedures and requirements.
• Computer Aided Design Tools
Able to apply a complete understanding of computer aided design tools and systems (e.g., computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), computer aided three dimensional interactive (CATIA), Mentor Graphics, Unigraphics). Able to build and manipulate data sets, (e.g., compare CATIA to measurement data, create stereo lithography files).
• Critical Path Methodology
Complete knowledge of critical path network methodology (e.g., logic, relationship/interdependency, early/late, start/complete, minimum duration).
• Customer/Supplier Knowledge
Complete knowledge of customer's/supplier's organization, processes, policies and procedures, products, requirements, capabilities, practices, support resources, preferences, constraints, etc.
• Design / Produce Process
Complete knowledge of Boeing design, production, and build processes (e.g., maintenance access solid, dependability cost model, produceability trade offs) to effectively influence product design.
• Design Concepts & Techniques
Complete knowledge of design concepts and techniques (e.g., concurrent engineering, Design for Manufacture/Assembly [DFM/A]).
