Grad Intern - Comparative Biology and Safety Sciences (CBSS) Department

Amgen's Comparative Biology and Safety Sciences (CBSS) department at our Seattle, WA location is looking for a Graduate student interested in a 10 - 12 week internship to become familiar with the roles of Lab Animal Veterinarian, Veterinary Pathologist, and Toxicological Scientist in Industry. The intern will learn the value of in vitro models and will assist in growing organotypic airway epithelial cultures to model normal human airway tissue. The intern will learn the principles of immunofluorescent staining and imaging including proper sample collection, sample handling, and experimental controls.

Basic Qualifications
Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in the biological sciences such as biology, microbiology, molecular biology, biotechnology, pre-vet or pre-med and be in the process of obtaining DVM or VMD degree (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine)

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
• Must be 18 years or older;
• Must be a current full time student
• Must have completed at least one full year of study at the time internship begins;
• Must have not yet graduated;
• Must be in good academic standing within their majors and overall at their university;
• Must be enrolled in school the fall season following the potential internship or co-op assignment.
• Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications
• Preference given to first through third year veterinary students enrolled in an AVMA accredited program of veterinary medicine.
• Interest in medical research as a career and/or advanced training in pathology or lab animal medicine also preferred.
• Prior experience in a research laboratory setting is a plus but not required.
