Sr. Windows Server Engineer
Provide high level technical knowledge for critical server, application and network environments for the Windows Server Engineering group in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) department at the Port of Seattle.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Serve as the final tier of escalation for technical problems related to Windows Server platform and select Infrastructure applications. Participate in technical projects as a primary resource on windows server related matters, serve as technical lead on projects. Work with peer technical groups to develop test plans and project plans related to the IT Infrastructure. Manage, maintain and optimize uptime of Windows servers; manage virtual infrastructure. Research and evaluate new technology solutions for current environment in order to make recommendations. Design, implement, and document Windows Server Engineering (WSE) standard operating procedures and best practices for the WSE team. Interface with business units, architecture group, and other peer technical teams within the organization to help craft overall Enterprise Windows standards and solutions. Participate in a rotating schedule for 24x7 on call coverage ever 7 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Excellent analytical and problem solving skills; technical proficiency in server platforms; ability to consult other IT groups on systems designs and support as a technical expert for the windows server 2008/20012 platform and related technology. Strong experience with installing and maintaining various enterprise back office applications including, but not limited to Microsoft Exchange 2007/2010, OCS 2007/Lync 2010, Active Directory, Systems Center technologies (SCCM, SCOM SCVMM); strong experience with VMware ESX platform. Ability to work with other IT groups in the support of large virtual environment. Strong knowledge and understanding of networking concepts. Ability to work collaboratively, as well as independently, with minimal supervision; strong oral and written communication skills; ability to present and discuss technical information in a way that establishes rapport and persuades others. Ability to produce and maintain technical documentation. Competency in strategic thinking with the ability to look ahead at emerging technologies and determine their impact on the organization. Strong team oriented interpersonal skills. Ability to interact with a wide variety of individuals on a high technical skill level as well as the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audience. Demonstrated competency in developing effective solutions to diverse and complex business problems.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS: Combination of education and experience demonstrating knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field; three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in troubleshooting, administration and design in an enterprise-wide Windows based server environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Five (5) to seven (7) years’ experience in troubleshooting, administration and design in an enterprise-wide Windows based server environment. Proven background in supporting a medium – larger enterprise deployment of Active Directory 2008, Exchange 2007/2010 and OCS/Lync Instant messing environments.
